Through the destruction that impacted much of Bhamdoun during the Lebanese Civil War, the Synagogue still stands. Pieces of the floor and architecture are in my apartment in Beirut with me. The construction and details in this space are undeniably Lebanese <3 This image resembles the area that surrounds it. Peaceful, quiet, ambiguous.

Built of stone and mud, eighth century BCE, 10,000 feet above sea level. It includes four burial chambers and stands about 100 ft. tall. The architecture from our ancestors has been hidden beneath millennia of occupations, it’s rare to find us, untouched, making this a very special piece of history.
